3 Secrets to Being Super Productive Without Feeling Busy

You don't need to feel like a rat on a wheel to get a lot done.
BY JESSICA STILLMAN

If you want to lose weight, you need to eat less. If you want to see the sun rise, you look east. And if you want to get more done, you'll end up busier, right?
These three statements may all sound like timeless, unavoidable truths, but according to a recent Medium post by Praxis founder and CEO Isaac Morehouse, the last one is actually a fallacy. You might not have much luck trying to change the direction the sun moves across the sky or your basic metabolic math, but he insists it really is possible to be more productive and yet feel less frantic.
“I have three kids; I'm running a business; I create and post a new podcast episode at least once a week; I write seven to 10 articles per week; I travel and speak, on average, twice a month; I'm committed to doing one form of exercise every day and reading a book every week. Yet I still have plenty of time,” he says.
How does he manage this seemingly miraculous feat? Some of his tips are common productivity fare, such as outsourcing tasks and learning to say no, but a few of his ideas are both subtle and original.

1. Be honest

Well, that sounds simple. But Morehouse insists this essential first step can be a struggle. Being busy is often seen as a sign of importance and success, after all, so if you're driven, admitting that busyness is just not you can take a little bit of soul searching.
“It took me a long, long time to admit that I hate being busy," Morehouse writes. "From my mid-teens to mid-late 20s, I was busy nearly every hour of the day. I wanted to be one of those people who live for the rush and never slow down, so I adopted (or rather didn't resist) that lifestyle. But it was never me. The sooner I came to terms with that bit of self-knowledge and stopped feeling bad about it, the easier it became to begin the process of unbusying myself.”

2. Kill the clutter

If you want to get stuff done without feeling busy, clutter (both mental and physical) is your enemy, so show clutter of all types no mercy.
“Every piece of mail, digital or physical, I immediately review," Morehouse says, explaining his approach. "I look for excuses to throw things away rather than reasons to keep them. I take action immediately. I pay bills the minute I get them, whenever possible, and throw away or delete the envelope. I take a photo of business lunch receipts, email them to myself, then throw away the paper and delete the photo off my phone, all while still waiting in line to get my order.”

3. Let your subconscious do the work

If you're not aware you're working, you're unlikely to feel busy. And yes, it is possible to get stuff done without ever feeling like you're slaving away, Morehouse claims. You just have to rely on that trusty friend, your subconscious.
“I think about my work all the time," he says. "In the shower, lying in bed before I fall asleep, while on a walk, in traffic, and almost everywhere else, unless I specifically decide to put it on hold. The advantage to this is that by the time I sit down to get cranking away, the bulk of the hard work is done.”
The ease with which his problems solve themselves is thanks to the “power of the subconscious,” Morehouse claims. “Wrestling with ideas consciously triggers your subconscious mind. When you are distracted, or sleeping, or too tired to consciously focus on them anymore, they're still bouncing around in there. By the time you need to call them to the front of your mind again, often problems have been solved and ideas have been improved as they spent time doing whatever magic your brain does to them with a little time.”

Your Daily Quote - The Power of Your Words

Everything you say produces an effect in the world. Always ask yourself: is what I am about to say going to advance the cause of my vision, mission, and goals? Will it uplift the hearer, Will it inspire, motivate, and create forward momentum? Will it build self-esteem, self-confidence, and a willingness to risk and take action?

Mind Power – How To Break Free Of Limiting Beliefs, part 3 of 4

Trainers Box
We Already Deserve WellBeing
One of the most exciting realizations I’ve had is that the positive or negative circumstances of my life aren’t about worthiness. They are about attention. All of us already deserve love, joy, and exuberant wellbeing. Yup, that means all of us, no matter what we’ve ever done. But how much of that we experience is a direct result of how much we believe we have access to it.
We all deserve love and joy
The way that we increase the power of our belief in our access to wellbeing is by using our Emotional Feedback Guide to help us to choose thoughts that keep us in alignment with Source. The more we practice feeling wellbeing, the more it expands within us and consequently, the more we believe it.

The manifesting principle of the universe is neutral and doesn’t care about your “good” or “bad” deeds of the past. Source Energy neutrally fills whatever molds we create with our thoughts and attention.

I’ve found that even when I’ve been going through intense growth phases and it is very uncomfortable, when I use my mind power to keep my attention on Source, there is a knowingness that everything is okay, even though it doesn’t feel that way. When I remember to do that, I go through the growing process much quicker and easier.

The Power Of Focused Attention
A while back I was listening to an Abraham-Hicks CD about mind power. They said that if you hold a thought/feeling (whether positive or negative), after 17 seconds the energy expands to ten times the attraction power and that your manifesting power is equal to 2,000 action hours. Then after another 17 seconds, it multiplies 10 times again. That process continues on, always increasing to 10 times the power at each 17-second interval. Wow! That impressed me.

Excited about the power of positive thinking, I decided to test this out. I started with a thought that felt really good to me. It was a memory of a time when I had some bills paid far in advance of when they were due. So I focused on this thought and really indulged in all the good feelings I could get out of it. I didn’t time it (not wanting to divert my attention), but sure enough in a few seconds, another thought of an even more positive vibration came into my mind: I thought of how it would feel to have a whole month’s worth of bills paid a month ahead. Whew! That felt great. A big wave of relief and expansion flooded in.

I kept my attention on this stream of thinking and after a few more seconds this thought popped in: my bills were paid a month ahead and I had an extra cushion of “fun money” to spend. Yeehaw! Now I was rolling. I kept it up and then the next thought was: having all that, plus making a substantial payment on my credit card debt. On it went.

After about a half hour of that I felt high as a kite and I had a deep knowing that I was on track with reversing my financial situation. It was as if I had been driving with the brake on before and suddenly I was in high gear and flying along! I experienced life from an entirely different viewpoint and some very positive feelings about money were available to me, where they weren’t before that. Besides the excitement I felt grounded, like I was creating new ground underneath me.

Since then there has been much less struggle around money, I’ve been getting new clients without doing any additional advertising, and my bills are getting paid much more easily. That experience was a turning point for me. This mind power is something!

Okay, we’ve talked about the importance of using mind power to focus attention on positive thoughts for wellbeing and that beliefs can either expand or sabotage the positive experiences that we want. So how can we change the beliefs that have held us back?

Your Daily Quote - Your Subconscious Mind

Your subconscious mind does not argue with you. It accepts what your conscious mind decrees. If you say, ”I can’t afford it,” your conscious mind works to make it true. Select a better thought. Decree, ”I’ll buy it. I accept it in my mind.”

Motivation and Goal Setting Theory

Motivation & Goal Setting Theory

by Jennn Fusion

The motivation and goal-setting theory research of Dr. Edwin A. Locke is widely regarded among the top management theories. Small businesses can learn a lot from his principles of motivation and goal-setting theory. Without the most basic goals, employees wouldn't show up for work or see a purpose in holding a job. The management team that helps employees set more complex and effective goals could boost performance and profits beyond their wildest expectations.

History of Goal Setting Theory

American psychologist Edwin Locke from the University of Maryland at College Park has studied the power of goal setting since the late 1960s. He first posited that employees were motivated by goals and feedback in his 1968 article "Toward a Theory of Task Motivation and Incentives." He later fine-tuned his perspective to include that the difficulty and specificity of the task also was a good predictor of performance. In other words, if the goal was too easy, the motivation wasn't as compelling. Along with Dr. Gary Latham, Dr. Locke published his groundbreaking work in 1990 in a book called "A Theory of Goal Setting and Task Performance," which frequently is cited by business administrators, Ph.D. students, lecturers and associate professors around the globe.

Basic Principles

The key points that Locke and Latham made were that motivational goals needed to have the following dimensions: clarity, challenge, commitment, feedback and complexity. Goals need to be clear and measurable such as: My goal is to reduce maintenance downtime by 15 percent. Secondly, goals must be challenging, with achievement as the final payoff. Thirdly, employees must feel like part of the goal-setting process to be committed to a clearly relevant goal. Next, there must be a program that involves feedback, recognition and progress reports. Lastly, the task must be complex but not overwhelming, with sufficient time and resources available.

Practical Application

Theories are nice, but what does all this mean to you, small business owner or manager? Consider how a company such as Moog, a manufacturer of precision air control components, has built its corporate culture around motivation and goal-setting theory. Moog credits its success with a "culture that unites and motivates" its workers. During their first days with the company, new interns sit down with management to discuss job expectations, skills and aspirations. All employees receive one-on-one time with managers for regular progress reports. Their performance is assessed and they are asked for suggestions regarding process improvement. They go over upcoming job openings that might suit the company and the individual's agenda. Employees are frequently trained in other divisions and offered different positions or promotions. In other words, employees are always being challenged with complex tasks and encouraged with clear feedback.

Tony Robbins on Mastering the Game of Money - Part 1 of 3

YOUR Limiting Beliefs (and they are yours to keep, unless you decide not to!)

We already spoke about values and beliefs, and how they shape the foundations of who you are. They determine the way you perceive the world, how you react and what action you take, in order to achieve results. And we gave an extensive list of values where you can identify your highest ones, your top priorities in life.
When you look at beliefs, how much do we realise that we are surrounded by limiting beliefs, lurking behind every corner. Yes, we do occasionally recognise that we say words of self-discouragement: I'm going to botch up this presentation, I know it!
But how often do we say to ourselves those seemingly harmless, habitual phrases: "Silly me!"
"This will never work!"
"I'll never get this job!"
“I’ll never learn to cook.”
"I'm so clumsy, I'll probably break something!",
or even "I'm gonna be late again!"

And these turn into self-fulfilling prophecies - you become unfailingly, chronically, late for every meeting. You always drop things; you never dare to have fun improvising and cook a meal. These formulas for failure block so much of your positive energy, of your potential!

I would go even further and claim that Limiting beliefs, and constantly imposing them on ourselves and others, are one of the unrecognised diseases of the 20th, and 21st centuries!
How often do you hear parents on the street yelling after their children: "Don't run, you'll trip! You'll fall down and break your head!" What a kind, caring, encouraging thing to say to your child, NOT!, over and over again...
Or: "You ain't good for nothing! You can't tie your own shoes."  And the list goes on and on.

What limiting beliefs do to your unconscious mind is to constantly build up a feeling of defeat, confirm your expectations for defeat, and ultimately they make you fit for defeat, instead of success.

Probably if I asked you right now to give me a list of your values, you would come up with three, four, or more ideas, straight away. But if I asked you: “What are your limiting beliefs?”, you wouldn’t have the answer off the top of your head.

So, here is my challenge for you: during the next three days, watch yourself, watch your language. What do you say to yourself – what everyday self-talks can you identify as limiting beliefs?

And if you want to take it up a notch, how about actually counting how many times you tell yourself things like, “I always lose stuff”, “I’m gonna be late again”, “I’m exhausted”, or thinking first thing in the morning: “I can’t be bothered to do any exercises TODAY.” Or when you get stuck with your report, or task, you repeat to yourself: “I can never finish these things on time.”

See, those nasty little power -, confidence - and success - sabotagers are hiding everywhere!
SO, share your examples here. Maybe you will even come up with some original ideas of how to stop yourself from success… And the more you repeat them, the better you become in developing the skills to fulfill those beliefs.

What do we do next? The next step for you is to reframe these boycotting expressions, and instead of saying: “I’ll be late again!”, you will say: “Today is the first of those numerous occasions when I will be on time. Punctuality is my middle name.”
Or saying: “I can easily go up those three flights of stairs. I am becoming fitter and fitter every single day!”

How about that as a self-fulfilling prophecy!
Believe in yourself!

Wayne Dyer - Eight ways to tap into the power of intention and feel great every day:

Eight ways to tap into the power of intention and feel great every day:
          1. Make meditation a regular practice in your life. You need to take time to get quiet, to go within, and from this silence make conscious contact with the source of intention. You’re already connected to everything that you perceive as missing from your life; go with a realign.
      2. Become conscious of the foods you eat. Foods high in alkalinity such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, soy, nonyeast breads and virgin olive oil are high-energy foods and will strengthen you, while highly acidic foods such as flour-based cereals, meats, dairy and sugars lower energy and will weaken you.
       3. Retreat from low-energy substance. Alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, sugar and virtually all artificial drugs, legal or otherwise, lower your body’s energy level and weaken you.
     4. Become aware of the energy level of the music you listen to. Some rap music—filled with profanity and messages about killing, for example—is an energy drain, while music that has a more soothing impact on the soul has been proven to be beneficial.
    5. Become aware of the energy levels of your home environment. Make your home a nurturing, cheerful and peaceful environment.
      6. Reduce your exposure to low-energy commercial television. Children see 12,000 simulated murders on TV before their 14th birthday! Television news puts a heavy emphasis on the bad and the ugly, leaving out the good.

         7. Enhance your energy field with photographs. Every photograph contains energy. Carry and display photos taken in moments of happiness, love and receptivity.
    8. Become conscious of the energy levels of your acquaintances, friends and extended family. Choose to be in close proximity to those who are empowering, who see the greatness in you, who feel connected to spirit.
