Your Daily Quote - Habit

“Habit is the intersection of knowledge (what to do), skill (how to do), and desire (want to do).”

5 Tips to Stay Totally Committed to Your Goals

by David K. William | The Web Writer Spotlight
Most of us know what we really want to do in life but just haven’t pursued it because we are too attached to the comfort, safety or simplicity of our routines. However, if you truly want to grow and actualize your innermost dreams and capabilities, you must get to a point in life where commitment supersedes comfort. Here are five tips that will help you stay totally committed to a clear goal you’ve set, whether the goal is to make a career change to freelance writing in six months or build up your online income to $3,000 per month by the end of the year.

1. Desire hard

Napoleon Hill, in his classic book, Think and Grow Rich, says: "The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat." You need to deeply desire the actualization of your goal to make it happen. Sure, there will be good days and bad days along the way. There will also be times when you question your decisions and future, but if you can picture yourself achieving your goal and you really want to achieve it, chances are high you will stay committed to and achieve the goal. Miracles happen when you throw yourself fully into what you want to achieve.

2. Plan well

Stephen Covey, author of the best-selling book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, says: "All things are created twice. There's a mental or first creation, and a physical or second creation of all things. You have to make sure that the blueprint, the first creation, is really what you want, that you've thought everything through. Then you put it into bricks and mortar. Each day you go to the construction shed and pull out the blueprint to get marching orders for the day. You begin with the end in mind." You must plan well and map out the route to follow in order to accomplish your goals. Needless to say, the beaten adage still remains true: “Failing to plan, is planning to fail.”

3. Invest wisely

Deb McAlister-Holland, a freelance marketing professional in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, says the $5,000 she spent remodeling her home office was the best thing she ever did to realize her freelance dream and increase her productivity. "I love my home office. It has a big leather sofa, three walls covered with built-in bookshelves and storage cabinets, dedicated circuits for my computers, special lighting, and a soft hand-woven rug on the floor that's the perfect spot for my dog to nap while I work," she says. It’s important to arm yourself with the tools and knowledge you need to realize your dream. Arming yourself with the right tools and knowledge calls for wise investing―a material and immaterial effort that compels you stay true to your goal.

4. Sacrifice wholly

George Santayana, 20th century philosopher, poet, essayist and novelist, says: “Nothing so much enhances a good as to make sacrifices for it.” And he is right. A key sign that you are totally committed to something is when you are willing to make sacrifices for it. Army officers literary sacrifice their lives because they wholly believe and are committed to the greater good. Top-level athletes train and practice countless hours every day because they believe they can do better. If you believe in and are fully committed to your goal and mission, you will be willing to sacrifice. Step out of your comfort zone and trod the rocky path toward the realization of your dream.

5. Review regularly

Diana Scharf Hunt, renowned author and time-management guru, says: “Goals are dreams with deadlines.” Review your goal regularly to make sure you are making progress in the right sequence of time. Don’t allow your goal to fall by the wayside or let it be overtaken by time. Document everything and assess what you need to do to make things happen. If you are not making progress, tap into a support group to ensure you get all the help you need to realize your goal.

The Importance of D.O.D: Desire, Optimism and Dream

 By Bonnie Goldstone

Are there things you would like to do? Have you set some plans in motion, penciled in dates on your calendar? Do you have some activities or even personal goals you would like to include this year?
As I sat down with my pen and paper to put down my ideas of the things I want to do and experiences I wish to create, I came up with this acronym.
D.O.D.
D - Desire:
What do you want to do or create this year? What do you truly desire? Take 5-10 minutes to quietly ponder the possibilities.
Simply allow yourself to open up to your hearts deepest desires. Maybe you want to travel, take a course, or move to a new location. Think of it as a game.
Wouldn't it be cool to... lose weight, become stronger, join a yoga class, or participate in a marathon? Wouldn't it be fun to shop for new clothes, to climb a pyramid, or go sailing?
I like to use self-hypnosis to get into that deep relaxed state where my conscious analytic mind is quiet and I can listen to my inner voice. I believe it is a good idea to consider desires in many categories of our lives.
For example, we may want to brainstorm ideas around our wealth and prosperity, yet we don't want to ignore our relationships or health.
Taking time to consider all aspects of our life and what we desire in each area is a positive step in creating balance and happiness in our lives.
If we focus only in one area, career and money for example, we may miss opportunities to grow and flourish in our relationships. Both are important to our happiness.
O - Optimism:
When an idea comes to you, allow yourself to expand on it in a positive way.
Sometimes we squash our ideas before we even allow our minds to completely formulate the complete idea. Do you do that sometimes?
Maybe you came up with the idea you would like to participate in long distance bike ride. You don't even own a bike, so you immediately dismiss the idea. Stop. Allow yourself to have some fun with the thought.
What would it feel like to go on a long distance bike ride? Who would you go with? What would you see? What would you have to do before hand to make this happen and is it something that would you would enjoy? Does this idea stir up some excitement for you? If it does, allow yourself to begin to...
D - Dream:
When you acknowledge a desire, whether it is a desire to travel, learn something new, change a habit or create something, and then you add a splash of optimism... you get a DREAM.
Continue to allow that idea or thought to grow and intensify; allow your mind to expand on this desire.
This is how DREAMS begin.

Your Six Core Needs - Contribution, part 7 of 7

As discussed in the previous post, the last two human needs – growth and contribution, are needs of the spirit. And meeting them is what ultimately accomplishes our mission, our feeling of a fulfilled life, as human beings.

The need for contribution is one that I believe takes most time to mature in terms of how we meet it. Its scale grows with the person, and takes different proportions depending on the person’s achievements in life, and their social engagement.

What contribution means for a little toddler is helping mum put the toys away, or wash the dishes. Or make a cake – it is a most tangible achievement, and very rewarding, indeed! Then the child moves into the community of its class and school. You know those active children that take part in every committee at school, give their voice at every meeting and want to change the world? They certainly are meeting their need for significance, but also there is the need for contribution met in an ecological, sustainable, resourceful way. When you start doing things for the greater good and not only for your personal satisfaction, this is when you are moving in the right direction of self-fulfillment. Because sooner or later this need will start working on your conscience, and will expect that you give it due attention and effort.

Adults contribute to society in many ways – the head of the family looks after his children, protects his wife and name; we all give our best as employees, business owners, housewives. Family, workplace, immediate community are, most often, grateful beneficiaries of our commitment, dedication, ability and desire to give and not only grow ourselves, but help grow. And the more we meet the need to contribute, the bigger the contribution becomes with every step.

Alternatively, if there is a disharmony between our need and what we actually accomplish, we revert to unresourceful behavioural patterns. We anaesthetise ourselves by watching TV, playing games, watching mindless movies, and having a drink… or five.

It is equally important to find the resourceful ways to contribute to your relationship. If you cannot figure out what to bring into that special environment/community of two, you may fall into a sabotaging withdrawal. Or even into an aggressive attitude, that tries to cover up for the emptiness and lack of clarity on how you can make yourself useful, how you can act and grow so that you feel like you have created, and keep building up, a noteworthy entity.

A relationship based on trust and desire to learn more about the other partner, and contribute to their world, is one that vows for longevity. Contribution starts with a little gesture of generosity, and moves onto selfless acts of responding to the needs of your partner. The next step is to be proactive, to anticipate what will work and make this partnership bigger, of higher grandeur, more mature.

So start listening and noticing – what are your partner’s needs, what works and what needs improvement. Where do you see this relationship in a month? In five years? In 50? How can the two of you turn into two wise, knowledgeable people who cannot only sense each other’s needs and step in when needed, but take this wisdom to a state of living in harmony, and teaching others how to achieve it? Because once you start doing it and applying it every step of the way, the next stage will be to teach it, to spread it. So that you can contribute even further and help create more happy and fulfilled couples.

Auto Suggestion, the Most Important Tool for Fulfillment of Desires

We have often heard that we are what we think we are. If someone thinks, lives, behaves like an effluent person, there are strong chances that he will become on, if not already. Conversely people who crib about everything in life including their luck, fate, conditions and lifestyle, the person must be a struggling in life.
But how about using this very strong manta to our advantage. How about feeding our sub conscious mind with our desires, our wishes, our goals to tune ourselves with what we want to achieve. Napoleon Hill in his famous book Think and grow rich explains the principles of auto suggestion in a detailed manner. He puts a word of caution, simply wishing to get something, reach somewhere of earn lots of money does not work. Firstly you have to make auto suggestion with absolute faith and sincere feelings - your emotions must carry your wishes to your sub conscious. Further, whatever you seek has to be exact, with dollars and cents, the time frame in which you want to achieve that also has to be exact. You also have to spell out clearly what you would give or surrender in return to the nature for receiving what you desire.
The concept to visualizing that whatever you desired has already been granted to you, your ability to sense and feel the money, success of whatever you desired has to be with all your five sensory faculties. This is the only language, a definite desire laced with deep emotions that our subconscious recognizes. And acts upon or engages it to convert it into its physical equivalent.
An important condition to make the concept of auto suggestion work for you is to feed your sub conscious with your desired goal repeatedly, at least twice daily. You must pen down your statement of desire on a piece of paper and read it aloud at least twice daily. Here also a simple teat book reading mode does not work; you must read it with feelings, faith and above all with sincere emotions. That is the only language our sub conscious understands.
For the benefit of readers of this post, I am reproducing relevant excerpts from the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. I am sure this will help you.
Quote:
"The instructions given in connection with the six steps in the second chapter will now be summarized, and blended with the principles covered by this chapter, as follows:
First.
Go into some quiet spot (preferably in bed at night) where you will not be disturbed or interrupted, close your eyes, and repeat aloud, (so you may hear your own words) the written statement of the amount of money you intend to accumulate, the time limit for its accumulation, and a description of the service or merchandise you intend to give in return for the money. As you carry out these instructions, SEE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.

For example:--Suppose that you intend to accumulate $50,000 by the first of January, five years hence, that you intend to give personal services in return for the money, in the capacity of a salesman. Your written statement of your purpose should be similar to the following:
"By the first day of January, 19.., I will have in my possession $50,000, which will come to me in various amounts from time to time during the interim.
"In return for this money I will give the most efficient service of which I am capable, rendering the fullest possible quantity, and the best possible quality of service in the capacity of salesman of... (describe the service or merchandise you intend to sell).
"I believe that I will have this money in my possession. My faith is so strong that I can now see this money before my eyes. I can touch it with my hands. It is now awaiting transfer to me at the time, and in the proportion that I deliver the service I intend to render in return for it. I am awaiting a plan by which to accumulate this money, and I will follow that plan, when it is received."
Second.
Repeat this program night and morning until you can see, (in your imagination) the money you intend to accumulate.
Third.
Place a written copy of your statement where you can see it night and morning, and read it just before retiring, and upon arising until it has been memorized.
Remember, as you carry out these instructions, that you are applying the principle of auto-suggestion, for the purpose of giving orders to your subconscious mind. Remember, also, that your subconscious mind will act ONLY upon instructions which are emotionalized, and handed over to it with "feeling." FAITH is the strongest, and most productive of the emotions. Follow the instructions given in the chapter on FAITH.
These instructions may, at first, seem abstract.
Do not let this disturb you. Follow the instructions,"
Unquote.
As for me, I am following Napoleon Hill to the point and am eagerly looking forward to a very bright and memorable future in life!
To you success!
